Of course we went straight for the Opera House. We bought tickets for the next available hour-long tour through the inside of the building, then walked around the Botanic Gardens until it was time.
Our guide took us through the back-stage hallways, bustling for New Year's as well as its afternoon and evening shows. It is a working theater, after all. We learned a bit about the architect, Jorn Urtzon, his design, and the actual finished product. Jorn also designed the Arch in St. Louis, and if these facts don't come in handy at trivia some time... well, I will still know them.
On New Year's Eve, we got in line ridiculously early. We had snacks, Harry Potter audio books, crossword puzzles, books, and lots of people to watch. It was still a long wait.
We secured a spot on Mrs. Macquerie's Point, and watched the air shows and harbor displays, waiting and waiting and waiting for the fireworks.
Happy New Year!
